This book serves as one of the rare documentations on the lesser known Nicobar Islands. Andaman and Nicobar islands are the two terminal archipelagos of India in the Bay of Bengal. The author uncovers many unique facts about the lesser known group of islands. Nicobar Islands are located in the south, closer to the Indonesian group of islands and have 22 islands of which 13 are inhabited. Among these, at least 5 clusters of islands have completely different cultural identities. The central Nancouri group of islands have a dominant matriarchal culture while patriarchal culture prevails in the rest of them. The aboriginal Shompen tribe lives in the dense forests of the Great Nicobar Islands.
